Dang, Kehlani. Back at it again with a new single.
On the night of July 14, singer-songstress Kehlani Parrish, 21, released a single called "CRZY" after releasing her previous single, "24/7," two months ago. And she didn't stop there.
Today, exactly a week later, Kehlani released a new single called "Distraction" on her website, kehlanimusic.com, for all of the Tsunami Mob to listen and enjoy. She announced the release on her only form of social media, Instagram, at 3:17 p.m. EST, with the artwork for the single and the production and artwork credit included in the caption.
"Distraction" has a 90's R&B feel to it that fits hand-in-glove with the Oakland native's soulful voice.
With the bridge and chorus beginning with , "I need you to give me your time/ I need you to not wanna be mine/ Are you down to be a distraction baby/ But don't distract me," "Baelani" wants someone to spend her time with while she's working hard at her craft, without the full commitment. Who could blame her?
After all, a person can only take but so much of the boy drama and on this track, Kehlani just wants a distraction without being fully distracted.
This sing-along worthy track is a perfect summer banger that is the exemplary representation of what being "single for the summer" really means. Everybody can relate to this song. No matter who you are or where you're from, everybody has had that time in their life where they want to remain single with some company.
We feel you 100 percent, Kehlani, but, again, WHERE IS THAT ALBUM?! The Tsunami Mob is patiently waiting and these surprise singles are amazing stepping stones towards the ultimate masterpiece.
