Happy Monday everybody! I hope you guys have had a blessed and safe week/weekend. Today, I want to touch on the subject of love. What is REAL love? Why must we love others who have wronged us?
Personally, I have trouble loving people once they've done something terrible to me. I have the mindset of "I forgive them, but I don't want to be bothered with them whatsoever," but is that really forgiving?
Every Monday and Thursday, one of my brothers, Josh, and I send each other Bible verses and tell each other what they mean to us and what we learned from it. This past Thursday, God led me to 1 John 3:11-18:
11 For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.12 Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous.13 Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you.14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death.15 Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.17 If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?18 Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.
I know that God brought this verse to me for a reason and it has completely changed how I go about things. In this scripture, it shows that we're supposed to love others even when they don't love us or do mean and hateful things that doesn't show love because that is what God did. Even though people curse His name and don't love Him or believe in Him, He still loves them. He doesn't walk away from them with a hardened heart. Jesus laid down His life for the people who didn't show love to Him. We need to be more like Jesus. We need to continue to love others who have hurt us.
If we don't love, we are not alive; we aren't living. We should always look out for one another and keep each other in love. Love is shown through words, but without action and truth, it's just words that are spoken without truth.
True forgiveness comes with love attached to it. We all need to love more when we "forgive" someone as if they haven't done anything to hurt you. My brother, Josh, would tell me this all the time and I didn't really understand it until God gave me this verse for our weekly devotions.
I pray that you all take this into account and live your life filled with love because that's how God wants us to live.
God Bless, everyone! Peace and blessings to you.
