It's Wednesday, everyone, and you know what that means... It's Woman Crush Wednesday (#WCW) AND it's time for yet another spectacular "Spotlight" interview! Can you feel my excitement?! Okay, okay, okay.. now let me tell you why I'm smiling while I'm typing. This most beautiful, radiant soul has gorgeous curls, jaw-dropping style and an amazing heart to match. I am so proud to introduce to you all Ginny Pettitt, also known as FroGirlGinny on social media and the natural hair world, as this week's #WCW Spotlight.
From talking to her via Snapchat and emailing back and forth, FroGirlGinny is such a beautiful person inside and out. She has a smile that lights up a person's day and is very inspiring. I came across Ginny and her curls on a natural hair Instagram page and I knew that I HAD to follow her on EVERY social media website. From that point on, she became another one of my ultimate #HairGoals, #HairCrushWednesdays and #VirtualSoulSister.
I had to know EVERYTHING about her and her endeavors (because that's what journalists do). I pray that you all will enjoy this interview because I definitely enjoyed doing it! Make sure you check her out on social media so that you can fall in love with her bright light as well. Dios los bendiga (God Bless).
About FroGirlGinny's GORG hair:
Introduce yourself king or queen.
Happy Froday! That’s what I’d like to think I am known for. Aside from being FroGirlGinny I am a free spirited lady who likes to travel the world. I love opening my mind by meeting new people and embracing other people’s culture. Natural hair has allowed me to grow through life. Once I accepted my big curls, I wasn't afraid to embrace my flaws.
How long have you been natural and what motivated you to have healthier, natural hair?
I have been natural for 6 years now! I cut off all my relaxed hair because I thought I’d get my curls back in an instant. I learnt the real meaning of patience as I had to embrace short wavy hair, since then it is now a big ‘fro!
Describe your hair by using a song lyric.
*Scrolls through my iTunes*
Black Gold. by Esperanza Spalding! The whole song is everything.
What are some of the struggles that you are faced while transitioning and are facing now being natural?
Understanding which products I should and shouldn't use. I was still young so I wasn't aware of how the internet could help advise me with my mane.
Describe your hair regimen (in detail) and tell us your staple products.
I wash my hair once a week! I am what some call, a lazy natural. I used to be so focused on what my hair needs and wants but now I don't revolve my Friday nights around deep conditioning my hair. I let it be free. I wash with Hydratherma Naturals Shampoo, it really cleanses my scalp and it doesn't strip my hair. I switch from conditioning cleansers to shampoo’s. It depends how I am feeling. I condition with Dark & Lovely All Natural line as it has a lot of slip. I style with Coco Amo Leave In and Frizz Free Curls Gel.
What does natural hair mean to you?
Being free! Being me.
If your hair had a name, what would it be and why?
Nia The Light. She is a humble soul and loves love.
About FroGirlGinny's motivating blog:
What made you start to become “FroGirlGinny?”
I had a meeting with my mentor Lukwesa who said I was too creative to not have a blog. It was on my 2O14 goal list but I was too scared. I went home and did it, since then it has been a beautiful journey.
How long have you been blogging/vlogging?
Less than a year. Since February/March 2O14.
What is your goal when it comes to your blog? How does it help other people?
Allowing people to embrace who they are! BeYoutiful.
About THE famous “Happy Froday!”:
What is “Happy Froday”? What made you start this movement?
Happy Froday is a day to celebrate each curl, kink and coil.
This vision was brought to love and light in August 2014 where I had my first event in Hyde Park and most recently in Central Park, New York City.
What is your goal when it comes to this movement? How does it help other people?
To promote loving and accepting who you are. Create yourself.
When and where is the next “Happy Froday” Meet & Greet?
That is a surprise!
Any thing that we should look forward to from you in 2015?
Happy Froday will grow, there will be no such thing as Friday! It is Froday.
Any words of wisdom?
It started with a simple acceptance to love my natural hair that has somehow allowed me to grow as a person. Acceptance of your flaws and your imperfections leads to great things. Embrace who you are, embrace everything about you, embrace your flaws. They are what make you, you.
